Book a LessonEncore: Before the Downbeat
Before the Encore weekend, singers are invited to take part in Before the Downbeat, an optional three-session lead-in class designed to help you step into the Encore Choral Retreat weekend feeling confident, prepared, and connected to the music and community. Across three two-hour classes, Artistic Director Kirsten Oberoi guides singers through this year’s repertoire while offering space to ask individual questions, explore foundational vocal technique, and build comfort with music reading in a supportive, low-pressure setting. These sessions allow time to slow down, listen closely, and get to know both the music and the process before the full ensemble comes together.
Before the Downbeat is especially supportive for singers who are new to structured choral singing, while still offering depth and clarity for experienced singers who appreciate extra time with the music.
Participation is optional, and singers may register for Encore with or without these sessions.
